Plight of the Christmas Drums
Out the back door of the church and onward we become the partakers of a rare spectacle as two young girls stumble upon an old abandoned theater…watch as the story unfolds. The PLIGHT OF THE CHRISTMAS DRUMS… takes place in an old abandoned theatre. Long forgotten are the happy Christmas musicals that were once shown there...until two young girls inadvertently stumble upon it. As they begin to investigate, they re-awaken the dormant instruments. Desperate to perform once again, the characters known as the small percussion climb from their storage boxes tossed among now dusty ornaments and peek out from behind the faded stage curtain. Excited at the opportunity for a new audience they sneak out on stage and begin to play. Thinking they now own the stage, they begin to boldly put on the loudest performance they can. The noise from the show awakens the large drum section who gather on to the stage behind the small drum section. Peering down from their highness the large drums become annoyed as
the small drums play merrily along without acknowledging their superior presence. How dare they! And in that moment the large drums make their presence known and move to center stage to prove once and for all just who is king of the stage. After A rousing performance the good natured little drums concede and applaud...all except one angry little drum who hauls off and clocks one of the big drums. At which moment the angel from atop the
tree reminds the two groups that they can create a much more beautiful sound by working collectively – than either group could create on their own.
